Step two

After finding the “set up your SD card” then click on the “internal storage” option. A warning message will appear requesting you to format the SD card. Creating a backup is important at this stage so create a backup and click on “Erase and Format.”

Step three

The device will start formatting the data. Once the process is complete click on ” move now”. You can move later as well if you think there is some sorting to do.

Step four

Once the process is complete, the “SD card is ready” message will be displayed. Click “Done” to finish this step.

Step five

In the end, to see, if the whole process is successful or not go to settings> device storage to confirm. If the process is successful the apps you store from now on will take a place in the SD card.

Set the play store to download the apps on an SD Card

Yes, you can set the play store to download the apps only to the SD card but this function is not available for every device. Only a few Android devices are blessed with this function. But if you do have this option;

Step one

Go to your phone settings and find the storage option.

Step two

Tap on the storage option to move ahead and scroll down to “change the default download location.”

Step three

Select the SD card to download the app directly to the microSD card. From now on, your apps will be downloaded only on an SD card. 

How to use “Marshmallow” to download apps directly to the SD card?

“Marshmallow” is another way to download and store apps directly to the SD card. But remember! Not all Android devices allow you to download apps to the SD card using Marshmallow. But if your device does allow you here’s how you can download the apps to an SD card.

Step one

Arrange and insert a blank SD card in your device

Go to your device’s settings and find the storage option

Select SD card and then find the three dots at the top right corner

Select setting, go to the “Format as internal” and confirm the action by tapping on “Erase & Format”

Reboot your phone to run the applications on the SD card

If your phone does not allow the play store to place apps directly in the SD card then how can you move already installed apps to the SD card?

The above-mentioned process does not work for the already installed apps. To move the installed apps to the SD card you have to follow these directions:

Step one

Head to the settings menu and look for the “apps” option. Tap on it to move forward.

Step two

A list showing the installed apps would appear. Scroll down to the app you wish to move and store in the SD card. Tap on it to find further options.

Step three

Find the “Move to SD card” option on this new window that appeared. Tap on it to end this process.

Step one

Find the “storage” option on this new window

Tap “change” to perform the actual task. If you can not see the “change” option, you have to find an alternative way of moving or installing this app on the SD card.

The final step towards the destination is “Move.” Your app will be moved to the SD card.

Keeping apps on an SD card saves you from a lot of trouble but one major disadvantage of having apps on an SD card is that it affects the performance of Android devices.
